[Audio Guide]

This video installation captures a single chef efficiently performing a series of tasks in a kitchen. There are those who think that the many stages involved in cooking—preparing, cooking, arranging—proceed in a straight line. However, in reality, the job of a chef working in a professional kitchen is extremely complicated. From a glance at this chopping, frying, boiling, rinsing, etc., an ordinary person could not judge what is being made, whereas professional chefs are able to organize the preparation of multiple courses with dexterity. Including preparation and tidying up, cooking is a continuous process that does not have a beginning or an end. To an onlooker, the movements of chefs are like a performance. The whole sequence of cooperation and complex exchanges appears as a microcosm for our society.
