Each sheet of paper is completely colored in with blue ballpoint pen. The technique known as hatching, in which numerous overlapping parallel lines depict planes and shadows, is used to cover the entire surface, so it deviates from its original purpose. Moreover, 11 pieces of paper are filled in just the same way. The title, ONONIMO, is of the artist Boetti’s coinage, combining the two words omònimo (homonymous, as in two different people with the same name) and anònimo (anonymous). During this period, Boetti employed various means of outsourcing his work to others. An anonymous person or people contributed to a work attributed to Boetti, producing 11 nearly identical sheets of paper colored in with ballpoint pen. The technique of hatching deviates from its intended usage. It is a work that prompts re-examination of traditional views of art, such as the relationship between work and artist and our fixed ideas about the means of production.
